In order for health insurance to accept an emergency medical transport claim, they first need to decide whether or not the ambulance trip was a medical necessity. Medical necessity is established when the patient’s condition requires emergency transport and any other means of medical transportation solutions (besides an ambulance) would endanger the individual’s health. The short answer is NO. We have never denied an emergency medical air service claim and have denied less than 1% of all ambulance claims. Only extreme cases where members abuse the privileges of their MASA MTS membership will end up with a denied claim.

The average cost of a ground ambulance is $1,500 and the average cost of an air ambulance is $20,000. Depending on which provider picks you up, the personnel on board and the amount of miles you travel, your bill can get extremely expensive. In some cases, patients are transported to an air ambulance via ground ambulance. In those situations, the patient is responsible for both ambulance bills. In regards to long-distance flights, your bill can easily exceed $50,000.

You should call MASA Global after you receive a bill from any emergency medical transportation solution. You should also call if you’re hospitalized more than 100 miles away from home, are in stable condition and need:

  • To go to a different hospital.
  • To be returned home after an emergency while traveling.

Platinum Coverage Area

The basic coverage area for MASA Platinum Members includes the United States, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean (excluding Cuba), the Bahamas and Bermuda. If you travel outside these areas, please provide us with your itinerary 10 days before your trip and we will adjust your global medical transportation coverage.

Emergent Plus Coverage Area

The basic coverage area for MASA Emergent Plus Members includes the United States and Canada.

MASA MTS covers you, your partner and all children under the age of 26 in your household.

Coverage Questions

One of the great things about MASA is that you never need to wait for an enrollment period. Your clients can enroll in MASA memberships at any point in the year with coverage beginning the start of the next month.

Filing a claim with MASA MTS is extremely easy. Simply send the ambulance bill to MASA MTS with your member number clearly written on the front. You can either email your bill to, fax it to 817-681-2399, or mail the invoice to: MASA MTS – Claims Department, 1250 S. Pine Island Road, Suite 500, Plantation, FL 33324. You can also log in and upload your bill or check the status of an existing claim in the “Members” section of our MASA MTS Web site.
